Collection of Information

Most of the content on Sega.com's websites are freely available to the general public. However, in order to participate in many activities at our websites, such as contests, chat rooms, message boards, and other interactive features, we ask that you first register with us and obtain a username and password. Whatever the activity may be, we only collect your information to the extent deemed reasonably necessary to fulfill this business objective. Registered visitors must then log in to access these areas of the site. Registered visitors will also be able to receive newsletters and news about games, as well as receive notification of the latest sales and promotions offered by Sega.com. The requested information may include personal identifying information such as your name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and date of birth. In addition, Sega.com may collect demographic information such as fan pages, favorite websites, and quotes.

Online Store

Visitors purchasing merchandise through our online store will be required to provide additional information including a valid credit card number with expiration date and billing address. Once your transaction is processed, your credit card data is eliminated form our databases. However, we will still maintain your contact information in case you wish to log in to other areas of our site(s).

Resumes

Sega.com allows for the online submission of resumes. Personal information collected from resumes is used solely for the purpose of accepting and evaluating candidate submissions for job postings. This information may be shared within the company.

Chat, Message Boards, and E-mail

Whenever you give out personal information in public areas on the site - for example via message boards or chat rooms - that information can be collected and used by people you don't know. While we strive to protect our visitors' personal information and privacy, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you willingly disclose or post online in public areas. Any such disclosure or posting is done at your own risk. For further information on this topic, please read our Terms of Use.

Console Serial Number

When activating your 50 free hour trial offer on SegaNet, Sega.com will read and store the serial number located within your Dreamcast console for the purpose of tracking your time online. More information about SegaNet and the terms of the 50 free hour trial offer can be found in SegaNet's Terms of Use.

Information Usage and Distribution

The information you provide is collected and used by Sega.com. Sega.com uses the information you submit to notify you about new products, contests, features and enhancements, special offers, upgrade opportunities, and other events of interest. We also use your information for our internal marketing and demographic studies, so we can constantly improve our sites and products to better meet our customers' needs.

From time to time, however, Sega.com may employ third-party vendors, such as Post Communications, to collect personal information on Sega.com's behalf. These third parties operate or sponsor some of the services we provide you including online product fulfillment, free e-mail, promotions, and contests and sweepstakes. When requesting these services, you may be asked to supply your name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, valid credit card number and expiration date. Although these third-party vendors, not Sega.com, collects the personal information you provide when requesting such services, Sega.com still requires that all third parties adhere to Sega.com's stated privacy policies. This means that we do not permit third-party vendors such as Post Communications to sell your information to other third parties.

Sega.com may also share aggregate information about our visitors within the Sega.com family such as with Sega of America Dreamcast. For example, we may say a particular game title's audience is X% female and Y% male. This data is used to customize the content and advertising of Sega.com's websites to deliver better experience for our visitors. It can also help tailor Sega.com's products and services to meet the needs of our customers.

Sega.com may share your personal information with third-party companies and organizations. If another company other than Sega.com is collecting your personal information, you will be notified at the time the information is collected. Sega.com sends to your Web browser most of the advertisements you see when you visit our sites. However, Sega.com may allow other companies, called third party ad servers, to serve advertisements within our Web pages. Sega.com's privacy policy does not apply to, and cannot control the activities of, these other companies. If you want to prevent a third party ad server from sending or reading cookies on your computer, you must visit each of company's websites individually and opt-out.
